Provide safe, effective dialysis treatment as a member of the dialysis care team under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse and in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, training, and all state and federal regulations.
Set up, operate, and monitor hemodialysis machines throughout treatment.
Welcome assigned patients, assess well-being since their previous treatment, and obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight.
Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform access cannulation, and administer heparin as permitted by state law or delegation.
Initiate dialysis treatment per prescribed orders, including appropriate blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD).
Monitor patient responses during dialysis, address intradialytic complications, and implement physician-ordered or nursing-directed interventions.
Discontinue treatment following established procedures, obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion, secure hemostasis, apply dressings, and assess the patient prior to discharge.
Accurately record treatment parameters, vital signs, and clinical data on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and in the designated clinical application.
Complete pre- and post-treatment assessments with proper identification.
Ensure all safety alarms (including Narrow Venous Limits) are enabled and functioning.
Document all patient care, interventions, unusual findings, and patient responses; report significant changes in patient condition to the RN or supervisor.
Confirm completeness of treatment sheets, required signatures, and correction of missing or omitted entries.
Prepare and maintain patient charts and required paperwork for admission or ongoing care.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized treatment environment in compliance with facility policies.
Clean and disinfect dialysis machines, chairs, equipment, and treatment areas between sessions.
Perform required pretreatment alarm tests including Pressure Holding Test (PHT).
Participate in the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI activities to support improved patient outcomes.
Reinforce infection-control practices, participate in infection-control audits, and support education for patients and families.
Ensure all blood spills are cleaned immediately with appropriate disinfectants.
Prepare, handle, label, and store laboratory specimens according to protocol and coordinate courier pickup.
Support patient-specific education on adequacy measures such as OLC, AMP, UKM, and access-related topics.
Assist newly admitted patients during their first four weeks of dialysis, reinforcing education and coordinating transitional care.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary FKC staff to ensure a positive patient experience and appropriate scheduling of all disciplines.
Provide patient education on treatment options, including home dialysis modalities, and demonstrate PD and home hemodialysis setups when appropriate.
Set up and perform treatments on machines used in the Transitional Care Unit (TCU).
Assist with supply ordering and inventory management for TCU.
Prepare supplies, equipment, and dialysis machines efficiently to prevent waste.
Conduct SDS (Solution Delivery System) initiation.
Assist in training new direct patient-care staff as assigned.
Maintain environmental cleanliness and aesthetics.
Follow all organizational business policies, including ethical and compliance standards.
Assist with home hemodialysis or PD patient orientation and training under RN supervision.
Set up home hemodialysis machines and PD cyclers as needed.
Participate in home visits with the HT RN when directed.
Assist with exit-site care, dialysate warming, and processing of home water/dialysate samples.
Support connected-health registration and patient home support within regulatory limits.
Help patients manage supply inventories and coordinate with customer service.
Schedule and contact patients regarding appointments.
Clean and prepare treatment rooms and assemble charts ahead of clinic visits.
Prepare lab tubes, requisitions, and assist with lab draw days per certification or state regulation.
Perform clerical tasks such as faxing and mailing documentation to physician offices.
Create and send patient reminders (medication reviews, supply needs, Kt/V collections).
Work in a healthcare environment with controlled temperatures and moderate noise levels and potential exposure to infectious materials.
Provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, patient mobility assistance, and use of equipment aids and two-person assist protocols.
Travel between facilities and attend regional, business unit, or corporate meetings when required.
