Job Description

Medical Assistant Job Description

  • Greet patients and prepare them for examinations and procedures.
  • Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, height, and weight.
  • Document patient medical histories and update electronic health records (EHR).
  • Assist NPs and other healthcare providers during examinations and minor procedures.
  • Prepare examination rooms and clean or sterilize medical instruments.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens as permitted by applicable laws and facility policies.
  • Administer medications or perform basic clinical tests when appropriately trained, authorized, and supervised.
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage referrals.
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to routine patient inquiries.
  • Maintain patient records and protect confidential health information.
  • Assist with insurance verification, billing, and other administrative duties.
  • Monitor and restock medical supplies.
  • Follow infection-control, workplace safety, and patient privacy procedures.
