Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – PRN to provide clinical support on an as-needed basis. The LPN will work collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical assistants, and other members of the healthcare team to provide safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

This position is ideal for an LPN seeking a flexible schedule while supporting an outpatient medical practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Room patients and prepare them for examinations and procedures.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, medication history, allergies, and other relevant clinical information.
  • Perform focused nursing assessments within the LPN scope of practice.
  • Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments as ordered and permitted by applicable law and practice policy.
  • Assist healthcare providers with examinations, treatments, and minor office procedures.
  • Perform specimen collection and point-of-care testing as ordered and permitted.
  • Provide basic patient education regarding medications, treatments, follow-up instructions, and provider-directed care plans.
  • Perform wound care and dressing changes as ordered.
  • Review and communicate laboratory or diagnostic information according to established provider protocols.
  • Assist with prescription refill requests and medication reconciliation according to practice procedures.
  • Document nursing care accurately and promptly in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Respond to patient telephone calls and route clinical concerns appropriately.
  • Assist with referrals, prior authorizations, and coordination of patient care when assigned.
  • Maintain examination rooms, clinical equipment, and medical supplies.
  • Follow infection-prevention and safety procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly notify the appropriate healthcare provider.
  • Assist with emergency situations according to established clinical protocols.
  • Perform additional duties within the LPN scope of practice as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state where services are provided.
  • Graduate of an approved practical nursing program.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing procedures, medication administration, infection control, and patient safety.
  • Ability to use an electronic health record system.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the clinical team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of outpatient, primary care, family medicine, urgent care, behavioral health, or similar clinical experience.
  • Experience with medication administration, injections, immunizations, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing.
  • Experience working with an EHR and patient portal.
  • Experience supporting both in-person and telehealth services.

PRN Availability

This is a PRN/as-needed position and does not guarantee a specific number of hours. The LPN may be scheduled to provide coverage for:

  • Staff absences or vacations
  • Increased patient volume
  • Same-day staffing needs
  • Clinic expansion or special programs
  • Occasional weekend or extended-hour coverage, when available

PRN staff should maintain reasonable availability and respond promptly to scheduling requests.
